In the Czech Republic our family Sunday tradition was having lunch at my grandpa’s place. It is said grandparents are the best cooks the best and I completely agree.
Since I moved to the UK my chair around the table back in my home town is empty and I miss those Sundays. Luckily for me the UK also has a tradition of Sunday Roasts which reminds me of our Sunday family meal.
As the foreigner in the house I wasn’t the one who was doing the cooking but this gave me time to document the whole process. I have to say I was really impressed by the confidence of my male chefs (obviously their mums did a great job!).
The Sunday Roast is build around meat, roast potatoes and vegetables. Then depending on the meat and the chef it can be served with extra treats such as Yorkshire Pudding, Pigs in blankets, Cauliflower Cheese, Stuffing, Gravy etc.
As it was my first Sunday Roast and my chefs had time on their hands they went all out and made everything! You can see that the portion was really generous and nobody went hungry. At this time of the year there is nothing better than a nice warm dinner by an open fireplace.
