Shades by Raphael Mazzucco

Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending the launch of the SHADES collection, a collaboration between talented Canadian artist and photographer Raphael Mazzucco and successful author E.L. James. The event was hosted by Castle Fine Arts at BAFTA’s headquarters in west London.

The collaboration was 2 years in the making and consists of images inspired by scenes from the best selling erotic trilogy which became a global cultural phenomenon.

Shades follows the artist’s established style of blending photography with print, drawing, script and collage allowing him to translate and deliver the complexity of his subject matter with sensitivity and finesse. In this collection the script element quotes iconic phrases from the books.
Personally my favorite images are “Hold me Close” and “Control”.

As well as the original art works there are four limited edition prints featuring a female model wearing a blindfold in different poses, all four images are signed by Raphael Mazzuco and E. L. James. 125 of each piece are available to purchase for £995.

About E.L. James:

The English author who has sold more than 125 million books to date was inspired to begin writing by Stephanie Mayer’s Twilight Saga. The bestselling erotic romance trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed were so successful worldwide that the author went on to write an companion novel Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian. The novels are being adapted into a series of movies, the first film was released in 2015 and the second movie from the trilogy is planned to be released in February 2017.

In a flash the country of William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde and J.K. Rowling also became the country of E.L. James 🙂
