Although I didn’t spend long enough in Portsmouth to tour the whole city I can say that saw all of it … from the top of the Emirates Spinnaker Tower. The view was spectacular! The view of the city, across the sea to the Isle of Wight and surrounding area was magical.
Portsmouth is an old navy city with a deep history. It is technically an island and entering the city reminded me my childhood road trips to Italy with my parents when you can’t wait to finally see the sea and all of the sudden is just next to you.
We parked the car in the underground parking of the open air shopping mall Gunwharf Quays of which the Tower is a part. Gunwharf was the busiest part of town after the football stadium Fratton Park that time as “Pompey” the city’s football team were playing at home. As we drove through the city I was really surprised how quiet it was while the game was on. We arrived around lunch time so we visited local great restaurant called abarbistro. The fish soup I chose was delicious, I am sure it had something to do with the fish monger which was close by.
